A lighthouse worker, also known as a lighthouse keeper, is responsible for the maintenance and operation of a lighthouse. This includes tasks such as cleaning and painting the lighthouse, maintaining the light and other equipment, and keeping detailed records of the lighthouse's operations.


The main duty of a lighthouse worker is to ensure that the light of the lighthouse is operating correctly and is visible to ships and boats in the area. This may involve adjusting the light's intensity, replacing light bulbs, or making other repairs as needed. They also may be responsible for other navigational aids such as foghorns and radio beacons.


In addition to maintaining the lighthouse and its equipment, lighthouse workers may also be responsible for conducting regular inspections of the lighthouse's structure and surrounding property to ensure that everything is in good condition.


Lighthouse worker in modern days are not as common as in the past, many lighthouses are now automated, and are operated by the coast guard or other government agencies. The ones that still exist, are more like touristic attraction, which lighthouse workers tend to work as tour guides and caretakers of the lighthouse.
